Book Style // The Girls by Emma Cline

Book Style - The Girls by Emma Cline

I’ve been having fun making outfits inspired by different books I’ve read this year. This time I styled this outfit based on The Girls by Emma Cline. For this outfit I tried to capture the a little bit of the 60s while still making it very wearable.

For this outfit I started with a Preowned 1970s Morton Myles For Malcolm Charles Boho Maxi Skirt and paired it with a Helmut Lang Vintage Fitting Skirt that would contrast with the bold print. For shoes, I picked a pair of Versace Collection Knee High Stiletto Black Boots.

For accessories I found a House of Harlow 1960 Golden Hour Fringe Pendant NecklaceHouse of Harlow 1960 Golden Hour Fringe Pendant Necklace and House of Harlow 1960 Golden Hour Fringe Earrings. Then I also added a House of Harlow 1960 Arrow Affair Midi Ring.

As a final touch, I picked a pair of Chanel Quilted Circular Sunglasses and a Steepletone 1960s Vinyl Record Player!

The Book That Inspired The Look

The Girls by Emma Cline CoverNorthern California, during the violent end of the 1960s. At the start of summer, a lonely and thoughtful teenager, Evie Boyd, sees a group of girls in the park, and is immediately caught by their freedom, their careless dress, their dangerous aura of abandon. Soon, Evie is in thrall to Suzanne, a mesmerizing older girl, and is drawn into the circle of a soon-to-be infamous cult and the man who is its charismatic leader. Hidden in the hills, their sprawling ranch is eerie and run down, but to Evie, it is exotic, thrilling, charged—a place where she feels desperate to be accepted. As she spends more time away from her mother and the rhythms of her daily life, and as her obsession with Suzanne intensifies, Evie does not realize she is coming closer and closer to unthinkable violence, and to that moment in a girl’s life when everything can go horribly wrong.

The Girls by Emma Cline is now available! You can pre-order a copy from your local independent booksellerBarnes & Noble, or Amazon.

    1. Thank you! It was so much fun to put together because I wanted a bit of the disheveled, and dirty appearances described in Evie’s time at The Ranch to reflect the outfit. It would have been easy to go mod but I wanted this to be a little more bohemian.
