Book Style // The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins just came out in paperback and with the movie coming out in October.

I had a really clear picture of Rachel in my head as I listened to the book and taking into account Rachel’s lifestyle and London I came up with this outfit.

Rachel is “The Girl on the Train.” She commutes to London five days a week and is a professional. So for this look I wanted to embody Rachel’s professional lifestyle with something that would be easy to commute in.

I started with a navy Diane von Furstenberg Cotton-Silk Printed Blouse and a pair of Diane von Furstenberg Wide Leg Pants. These two pieces can be part of a capsule wardrobe that Rachel could mix and match with other pieces of her wardrobe to make an entire ensemble.

For outerwear, the House of Fraser Aquascutum Lana double breasted raincoat. This is perfect for the London weather and would be ideal for Rachel as she travels through the streets.

Since London is a medieval city, I went for a shorter heel with the Marc Jacobs Mouse Kitten Heel. For toting around everyday essentials, I selected the MICHAEL Michael Kors Anabelle Large Grab Bag Satchel Handbags.

For jewelry, I didn’t want anything too over the top for Rachel, so I chose an Allurez Diamond Gothic Cross Pendant Necklace 14k White Gold. It’s a beautiful necklace that is understated but still beautiful and appropriate for an office. The Allurez Diamond Gothic Cross Bezel Set Earrings 14k White Gold make a beautiful compliment to the necklace.

For a ring, I decided that Rachel might like a spinner ring during her meditative train rides. The psychological thriller seems like a perfect place for a character to twirl a ring around her finger. So I went for a David Tishbi Thin Hammered Band in Silver with Two Oxidized Spinners.

For makeup, I also went for a really understated look with a bit of a pop when it comes to Rachel’s lips. For her eyes, I like the subtle palette in the Nars Trio Powder Eyeshadow in Douce France.

To complement this palette I wanted a gray eyeliner so that her eyeliner was a little more subtle than a solid black.  So I chose a Nars Women’s Eyeliner Stylo in Carpates.

For her lips I chose a bright lipstick with the Givenchy Beauty Women’s Le Rouge Lipstick in Rose Boudoir (204). To complement this color I thought the beautiful OPI Washington Collection Nail Varnish in We the Female.

And the result, a beautiful look for a woman ready to take London by storm. (Or is she?)

The Book that Inspired the Look
