Book Traveling Thursdays // A Book That’s Worth the Hype

Book Traveling Thursdays - A Hyped Book That Was Totally Worth ItBook Traveling Thursdays is a weekly feature created by Danielle’s Book Blog and The Girl Who Read Too Much that highlights book covers from around the world.

This week’s theme is “a book that was worth the hype” and for me, that was definitely Lily and the Octopus by Steven Rowley.  It may be because I am a dog person, but I think this book is very heartfelt.

You don’t need to be a dog lover to like this book, it’s really just a great story, and if you haven’t checked it out I highly recommend it.

Now, onto the covers!

Original Cover

Book Cover - Lily and the Octopus by Steven Rowley

This is the original American cover for the book and I absolutely love it! I love the color, I love the water color dog, it’s just so simple. In real life, the color looks so beautiful and ethereal.

Favorite Covers

Most of these covers use the same color scheme. I really love the German, United Kingdom, Swedish, and Hungarian editions.

The German edition looks really peaceful and ethereal, and I absolutely love the inclusion of Lily’s red ball. I also love the way Lily is positioned standing on the “Octopus” and looking off to the left.

The United Kingdom and Swedish editions are really similar, save for the background over. I love the way the leash breaks up space, and it’s an adorable  the illustration of a dachshund.

The last one is Hungarian edition. I love the beach and the shadows. I really love how Lily’s turns to an octopus.

Least Favorite Covers

My two least favorite covers are the Dutch and the Italian editions. They aren’t horrible designs but the Dutch edition makes it look like Lily is standing on air, and I don’t like the placement of the award. Otherwise, it looks very similar to the American edition.

The Italian edition, on the other hand, I just don’t like. I get that a dachshund has a long body, but this one just makes it look ridiculous.

Honorable Mentions

There are so many new editions of this book coming out. I am going to the author’s Instagram account to show you guys a few more. Take a look at these awesome covers!

And be sure to follow MrStevenRowley. He has a lot of cute dog photos with the book!

And that wraps it up for the hyped book edition of Book Traveling Thursdays. Have you read Lily and the Octopus yet? Do you agree with my cover choices? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. Aw, I LOVE the Swedish edition – the leash is really a nice touch and the blue is pretty. Completely agree with you on the Italian edition… poor puppy.

    1. I love the leash on the Swedish edition! 🙂

The Italian edition does make me say “poor puppy” though. I have a dachshund mix and because of their long body they actually get back problems. So that dog is just…not going to fair well.
